A Memorial Legacy: The Hahns of Providence
The Rhode Island Jewish Historical Association (RIJHA) and the National Park Service (NPS) are seeking historical research assistants for a project titled “A Memorial Legacy: The Hahns of Providence.” This project aims to uncover the rich history of the Hahn family through archival research conducted in local archives and online.
Overview:
Applicants must have experience in archival research. They will examine records in various archives, including the Rhode Island State Archives, Rhode Island Historical Society archives, Rhode Island Judicial Archives, and others. Selected individuals will receive guidance and mentorship from researchers at both organizations.
Position Details:
Start Date: November 2024
End date: April 2025
Hours: 100 hours per Internship
Compensation: $20/hour
Research Description:
This project will build upon initial research into the life of the Hahn family, focusing on their journey as immigrants and their significant contributions, including serving in the state legislature and state supreme court. Through the Roger Williams National Memorial and RIJHA partnership, this project aims to shed light on this under-told story. The research will tap into a wealth of historical records on Isaac and Jerome Hahn, examining their lives and contributions to Rhode Island’s history.
Research assistants will work closely with the RIJHA and NPS experts to unearth new knowledge through historical records that showcase the Hahn family’s impact on the local community.
