Archive

The RIJHA Archive is where we preserve records, photographs, and artifacts pertaining to Rhode Island Jewish History. It is climate controlled and monitored daily for potential threats to the collections. 

Mission Statement

To procure, collect, and preserve books, records, pamphlets, letters, manuscripts, prints, photographs, paintings, and any other historical material relating to the history of the Jews of RI; to encourage and promote the study of such history by lectures and otherwise; and to publish and diffuse information as to such history.

Collecting Policy

To be considered for acquisition an item must:

  1. have a close relation to the history of the Jews of Rhode Island;
  2. have historical significance in relation to social, economic, religious, cultural or political records, or to persons, events or places;
  3. not duplicate material in the collection;
  4. not be trophies, plaques, clothing, furniture or other large objects unless they have significant historical value.
  5. be unrestricted.  

All donations will be reviewed by the Acquisitions Committee to determine if they will be accepted or repatriated. If you would like to make an archival donation, please download or print a deed of gift form below and submit the completed form to a RIJHA staff member. We will not accept donations without a completed and signed form.
