RHODE ISLAND JEWISH HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION

GENEALOGY MEETING

TUESDAY, October 30, 2007
FEDERATION BOARD ROOM
7:00 P.M.

We are pleased to announce that Leah Cook, Ph.D. has joined RIHHA and has volunteered to be our Genealogy Coordinator. Dr. Cook recently moved to Tiverton, RI from Newton, MA where she was involved with the Jewish Genealogy Society of Greater Boston since 2002. She was a Professor at the New England Institute of Art and held a part-time appointment in Computer Science at Tufts University.

Dr. Cook will be coordinating our genealogy meetings and offering free genealogy consultation to RIJHA members. With her help, RIJHA will be preparing materials about Jewish genealogical resources in RI for a forthcoming Avoteynu book.

We will be holding bimonthly meetings that will focus on how to do genealogy research and holding bimonthly help sessions where you can receive personal one-on-one consultations. WE hope you will be part of this group.

Dr. Richard Plotz

“Serendipity in Genealogy: Anecdotes and Lessions”

Our first speaker will be Dr. Richard Plotz, a member of RIJHA. He has been researching his and his wife’s genealogy for over 40 years and has traced some lines back before 1700 in both families. He is a member of the Operations Committee of JewishGen, the premier online resources for Jewish genealogy.
